Almost PLN 260 million net – this is the value of the contract that Unihouse SA signed yesterday in Warsaw with Bechtel, the main contractor for Poland’s first nuclear power plant in the municipality of Choczewo in Pomerania and a partner in the American Bechtel-Westinghouse consortium. Our company will design and construct, using modular technology, temporary accommodation buildings for 1,000 project workers on the site of the investment being carried out by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe. This is the largest contract in Unihouse SA’s history.
The contract was signed at the Polish Press Agency’s Press Centre in Warsaw. As Leszek Hołda, CEO of Bechtel Polska, emphasised, the contractor for the residential section was selected through a tender process that included pre-qualification and technical and commercial evaluation of bids. The tender criteria covered, among other things, technical capabilities, experience and price.
“We have chosen an experienced Polish company to deliver this multi-purpose facility, which will include high-quality residential and communal spaces. This is also the latest in a series of contracts signed with Polish contractors in recent months and confirms the practical application of Bechtel’s ‘we buy where we build’ philosophy,” said Leszek Hołda during the conference.
The subject of the ‘Design and Build’ contract is the design and construction, using modular technology, of accommodation facilities and ancillary buildings for 1,000 people. The tasks include
Leszek Hołda added that the contract provides for the construction of 12 residential buildings, each containing an average of 80 rooms. The entire plot on which the development will be built covers an area of 8 hectares.
The accommodation facilities will ultimately be intended for around 10 per cent of the workers involved in the construction of the nuclear power plant in the municipality of Choczewo, whose constant presence on the construction site will be essential during the project’s implementation phase. Work is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026. The facility will be fully operational in the first half of 2029, although the first 500 rooms are due to be ready for occupancy as early as the second quarter of 2028.
“We regard our company’s inclusion in the supply chain of such a distinguished client as Bechtel as a milestone in our company’s history, one that goes beyond the value of the contract itself,” said Marcin Gołębiewski, Chairman of the Management Board of Unihouse S.A. – We are proof that our procedures, quality and safety meet the standards required by Bechtel and Westinghouse. We have thus joined the elite group of technology suppliers for the most sophisticated and demanding major investments, which opens up a range of new opportunities for us. As a Polish company forming part of a Polish capital group with international experience, we have for years been successfully implementing projects in the demanding markets of Scandinavia, Germany, Iceland and Poland. Thank you for your trust. We will make every effort to ensure that our cooperation runs smoothly and becomes the start of further joint ventures.
The press conference concluded with a banner bearing the slogan: “Welcome Unihouse to the group of Polish companies involved in the construction of Poland’s first nuclear power plant”.
